What it is

A reference calculator that estimates how many square meters of páramo are equivalent to your water footprint, based on the scenario you describe.

What it protects / supports

It is not a voucher in itself. It shows you a calculated environmental equivalence and connects you with the real voucher that does protect water in the territory: Watershed Protection.

How it works

Here is how it works: you describe your scenario (daily life, a trip or a hike) → the calculator estimates the liters of water associated with it → that figure is converted into square meters of páramo using Santuario Chiquito’s reference model (1 m² ≈ 365 L/year) → you can explore how many units of Watershed Protection match that equivalence, without any automatic purchase being made.

This calculator gives a reference estimate, calculated with general water-consumption factors that are publicly available (not measured in the territory). It is not a certified measurement, and it is not a validated scientific methodology for Santuario Chiquito. When the final factors exist, this calculation will be replaced with them.

Reference factors, for general use and not specific to the territory:

  • Shower: 9 liters per minute
  • Vegetarian diet: ≈ 1,800 liters/day · mixed: ≈ 3,000 liters/day · with meat: ≈ 5,000 liters/day
  • General household use: low ≈ 50 liters/day · medium ≈ 120 liters/day · high ≈ 250 liters/day
  • Night of accommodation: hotel ≈ 300 liters · glamping ≈ 150 liters · camping/mountain hut ≈ 60 liters
  • Vegetarian meal: ≈ 500 liters · meal with meat: ≈ 1,800 liters

These values will be replaced once the voucher’s final factors are defined and incorporated.

On its own, this calculator does not direct any contribution to the territory. If you choose to continue to Watershed Protection and complete that purchase, that contribution is directed to watershed protection in the territory.

This voucher is a way of contributing to the territory’s productive conservation model. It is not a purchase of property, an environmental certification or a certified offset.
