A trail running race on exclusive conservation trails

The Santuario Chiquito Trail Running is the reserve’s flagship mountain race. Unlike other trail running races near Bogotá that use public roads or third-party land, this course runs exclusively on the trails and eco hikes that are part of Santuario Chiquito’s conservation reserve network. Every runner treads the same territory (Páramo de Guerrero, high-Andean forest, historic dirt roads) that the guided hikes cover all year round.

Running here is in itself an act of conservation: your entry becomes direct income for caring for the páramo and income for the local community that lives in and protects this territory. At Santuario Chiquito, trail running, hiking and conservation are not three separate things. They are the same activity seen from different angles.

Trail runners on a mountain trail

Next edition: December 19, 2026 (the last Saturday before December 24). The race is run in December. Distances and official course: [PENDING CONFIRMATION]. No details will be published until there is real, confirmed information.

Santuario Chiquito began as a family effort on the main Santuario farm (40 ha) and the Finca Santa Lucía (40 ha). Today that network adds up to 350 hectares under direct custody and strict conservation. The resources generated by each trail running race and each training session sustain this territory in concrete ways: they fund the planting of more than 2,000 native trees along water margins and the removal of 8 hectares of gorse (retamo espinoso), an invasive species that was displacing the páramo’s native vegetation. It is hiking, it is an eco hike, it is active conservation, all in one outing near Bogotá. Discover the whole territory we protect →

This course runs through the 350 hectares already under the reserve’s direct custody: Páramo de Guerrero and high-Andean forest. Here are some of the conservation tasks your entry supports and the species that live in that same territory:
