What it is

A reference calculator that estimates how many square meters of conservation land are equivalent to your carbon footprint, depending on the scenario you describe.

What it protects / supports

It is not a voucher in itself: it shows you a calculated environmental equivalence (never a certified carbon offset) and connects you with the real voucher that does protect land, Páramo Protection per m².

How it works

The flow is: you describe your scenario (daily life, a trip or a hike) → the calculator estimates your CO₂e footprint → that figure is translated into square meters of equivalent conservation land, under Santuario Chiquito's reference model (20.18 tons CO₂e/ha/year, between capture and avoided emissions) → you can explore how many m² of Páramo Protection correspond to that equivalence, without this triggering any automatic purchase.

This calculator gives a reference estimate, calculated with general, publicly published emission factors (not measured in the reserve). It is not a certified measurement and does not correspond to a scientific methodology validated for Santuario Chiquito. Once a definitive methodology exists, this calculation will be replaced by it.

Equivalence used to calculate the equivalent conservation area (a Santuario Chiquito reference model, not a measurement specific to the territory): reference net annual capture ≈ 1.83 tons CO₂e/ha/year + reference emissions avoided through degradation ≈ 18.35 tons CO₂e/ha/year = 20.18 tons CO₂e/ha/year. Equivalent area (m²) = (annual CO₂e footprint in tons ÷ 20.18) × 10,000.

These values are reference factors from the model. They are not certified measurements, and they are not specific to any Santuario Chiquito property.

On its own, this calculator does not direct any contribution to the territory. If you choose to continue to Páramo Protection by m² and complete that purchase, that contribution is directed to páramo protection in the territory.

This voucher is a way of contributing to the territory’s productive conservation model. It is not a purchase of property, an environmental certification or a certified offset. The figures in this calculator come from Santuario Chiquito’s own reference model (not a certified carbon offset, and not a measurement specific to any property in the territory, unless specific technical studies exist in the future).
